A man in Coimbatore has a hobby of collecting antique cameras, Mr Mohammad Isaq has raised a collection of over 2000 vintage cameras and 500 lenses of different brands. He is proud to own one of them Tiranty Wooden Bellows camera dating back to 1860s. ByGeorge Thengummoottil2010-09-20
 Mr Basheer, father of Mohammad, was a passionate photographer, who started the first studio at Palakkad (KERALA,IND) the Ramina Studio and later moved to Coimbatore and setup his new studio. Mr Basheer continued is hobby of collecting old cameras for more than 25 years and Mohammad, his son inherited most of the cameras.
Mohammad's collection includes almost all the antique cameras like Roliflex, Condiflex, Yashica, Moviekon 8 , Kodak's Kodascope, and several kind of lenses. His collection includes a few special lenses polished from highly refractive mineral rocks.
A wide collection of vintage Cameras
His collection consists of Personal photography cameras, Professional studio cameras and High End Model Photography cameras which dates back to 18th century. One of the rare model of camera he owns is a panorama shooter, which can shoot ultra wide 180 Degree photograph by rolling the film 2.5 times that of normal photograph. It can frame about 300 people in a frame, when arranged in a semi circle. He own a few antique video camera too including a mechanized crank winded movie cameras used to shoot the early Tamil movies. |
He have invested his whole life for accumulating this priceless collection of cameras from UK, Germany, France and Japan. Due to the lack of space he has cramped all his cameras inside his rented apartment.
He is planning for a camera museum at Coimbatore where he can display the cameras. He said that is will be useful for photographers and students.
Mr Mohammad owns a Rubber stamp Shop and A Photo Shop names "Graphic Systems" at 100 feet road, Coimbatore and anybody can step in to see his priceless collection.
