Documentary film on Goecha La Trek in Sikkim Himalayas of India

Goecha La in Search of Kangchenjunga was shot on Canon 500D. Goecha La in search of Kangchenjunga was the first attempt to document this high altitude pass and solar powered cameras were used in the making of the film.

In December 2011, ZY and I went on a little trekking trip to Goecha La. It was an unusually cold December and the snow has set in early. It was off peak season due to the cold and we were mostly by ourselves up in the mountains. Before heading up, the weather was really bad and 2 teams actually dropped out. However with a little bit of luck, we had pretty good weather along the way and great views.

The night was still bitterly cold, especially for a tropic animal. Winds were strong and on certain nights temperature went around -10C to -15C. It certainly didnt help when the tent I shared with George practically ripped off in the middle of the night. Well at least the stars were awesome. A great trip I'll always remember. Happy Days.

Himalaya: Mountains of Life is a coffee table book authored by Sandesh Kadur (National Geographic Explorer) and Kamaljit S. Bawa (Research and Exploitation Committee, National Geographic).

The book contains information about the biodiversity of Eastern Himalaya and is divided into four main chapters, The Land, The People, The Animals, The Plants.

The book aims at capturing the biodiversity and the culture of the eastern Himalayan region by documenting behaviors and rarely photographed species.

Much as the photographs portray the glory of the Himalayas, this stands in stark contrast to the devastation wrought on the great mountains that has been equally well documented by the authors.
